Prince Edward Island (English: Prince Edward Island; French: Île-du-Prince-Édouard; Scottish Gaelic: Eilean a' Phrionnsa or Eilean Eòin; Mi'kmaq: Apekweit or Epikwetk), referred to as the Province of Prince Edward Island, also often referred to as the Province of Prince Edward Island. Known simply as PEI (often abbreviated in English as: PEI; in French as: Î.-P.-É.), it is one of the three maritime provinces in eastern Canada. Prince Edward Island has the highest population density in the country, reaching about 25 people per square kilometer (24.47/km2). In addition, the island is also the 104th largest island in the world (23rd in Canada). The capital is Charlottetown.
